Info on FR# 229a This is the rarest of the 1899 $1 Black Eagles. There are about 85 known in the current census with only 16 or so uncirculated. The signatures on the note are Vernon/McClung. This note is different from the standard 229. The 229a series date is to the right of the blue seal while the 229 date is below the blue seal. A rare find if you have one of these. |

The Fr 229a is one of the rarest of Black Eagles series. This note is graded XF 40 by PMG.
